At the time, I was one of only a few women talking about menopause, let alone focusing on a holistic approach to this profound time of life in a positive way. Today, there are thousands of men and women offering advice at the click of a link. While meaning well, many are providing inaccurate information that can actually make you feel worse. Choose your sources wisely!
A lot of things have remained the same since 2004. Most notably, advice is given without the distinction between perimenopause and menopause being taken into consideration. These two profoundly different phases of this long journey must be addressed in their own unique way. Remember, what helps during actual menopause can do more harm than good during perimenopause.
Unfortunately, the way many doctors respond to hormonal changes hasn't evolved much either. To this day, the protocol for irregular or heavy periods is a prescription for "The Pill." Feeling moody? An anti-depressant is often prescribed as well. And sadly, there are also still far too many unnecessary hysterectomies being performed. Too often with western medicine, medications are used to mask symptoms without addressing their core cause.
